BOSTON – Soon LED screens will become a form of art. One of GoVision’s GO BIG units, which features a 16 foot by 9 foot BARCO DLite LED screen, will be a moving “artwork” as part of the Vita Brevis program at The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston, May 13-15. As the truck drives the streets of Boston and sets up stationary in strategic parts of the city, the screen will display Remedy, a new performance and video work by award-winning choreographer Ann Carlson in collaboration with Mary Ellen Strom.
“This event shows the tremendous flexibility of the GoVision mobile units and the idea that their usage is only limited by the imagination,” said Christopher Curtis, GoVision president. “The screen is perfectly made for this type of event as its LED tiles are specially made for daylight viewing. We’re very happy to be a part of Ann Carlson’s work and the ICA’s Vita Brevis program.”
For half the day on May 13, GO BIG will drive around the Longwood Medical Area, displaying the video as it drives. It will then sit stationary outside the ICA for the second half of the day. On May 14 and 15, the GO BIG unit will set up in Copley Square, where members of the public are invited to work with Carlson to create on-the-spot portraits.
“GoVision’s mobile unit is the perfect gallery for Carlson’s Remedy, which was commissioned for our ICA/Vita Brevis program,” said Jill Medvedow, James Sachs Plaut Director of the ICA. “This program brings temporary works of art into public spaces throughout the city of Boston.”
Remedy explores health, healing, mortality and the unexpected grace of everyday life. Carlson worked with Boston-area doctors, nurses, medical administrators, educators, and students to create a series of individual performance-based portraits that incorporate the participants’ signature gestures, sounds, and language patterns.
